About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Marine Electronics Service Engineer to provide technical service and support for advanced fishing and marine electronic systems onboard commercial vessels.
This role will focus primarily on the installation, commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration and optimisation of fishing electronics, including sonar, fish finders and related navigation systems. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to support broader marine electronics and survey activities, including GMDSS Radio Surveys and VDR Annual Performance Tests.

Key Responsibilities
Fishing Electronics & Technical Service
- Install, commission, maintain and repair fishing electronic equipment onboard commercial fishing vessels.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot technical faults involving sonar, fish finders, echo sounders and related systems.
- Configure, calibrate, tune and optimise equipment based on vessel requirements and fishing operations.
- Conduct sea trials and provide technical support during vessel operations.
- Support equipment upgrades, replacements, retrofit and system improvement projects.
- Provide technical guidance and operational training to vessel owners, captains and crew.
Marine Electronics Support
- Provide technical support for equipment such as:
- Sonar and Fish Finder systems
- Radar
- GPS/GNSS and AIS
- Heading and navigation systems
- Chart plotters and NavNet systems
- Other marine navigation and communication equipment
- Support equipment installation verification, software updates, system configuration and performance optimisation.
Marine Survey & Field Support
- Support GMDSS Radio Surveys and VDR Annual Performance Tests where required.
- Perform inspection, testing and verification of marine electronic equipment.
- Attend service assignments at fishing ports, shipyards, onboard vessels and other customer locations.
- Prepare accurate service, survey and job completion reports.
Customer & Stakeholder Support
- Provide professional onsite and remote technical support.
- Work closely with vessel owners, captains, shipyards, contractors and agents.
- Conduct customer training and equipment demonstrations where required.
- Escalate complex technical issues to internal and regional technical teams when necessary.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with company procedures, quality standards and safety requirements.
- Comply with Risk Assessments, Job Safety Analysis and Permit-to-Work procedures.
- Maintain accurate equipment and service records.
Requirements
- Diploma or Degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Marine Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience servicing marine or fishing electronic equipment onboard commercial vessels.
- Strong experience with sonar, fish finders, echo sounders and fishing electronic systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot, configure, calibrate and optimise electronic equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams and schematics.
- Experience conducting sea trials and supporting fishing operations is highly preferred.
- Exposure to marine navigation and communication systems such as Radar, GPS/GNSS, AIS, VDR, GMDSS, VHF/MF/HF Radio or satellite communication systems will be an advantage.
- GMDSS Radio Survey and/or VDR APT experience is an added advantage.
- Good communication skills in English and Bahasa Malaysia. Mandarin is advantageous.
- Possess a valid driving licence.
- Comfortable travelling extensively within Malaysia and overseas.
- Willing and able to work onboard vessels, attend sea trials and support assignments outside normal working hours when required.
