Our client is a diversified conglomerate with a growing portfolio across infrastructure, energy and sustainable development. As part of its strategic growth agenda, the organisation is accelerating its investments in renewable energy and is seeking an experienced Chief Operating Officer (COO) to lead the division through its next phase of expansion.


Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the division's strategic roadmap, driving sustainable growth and positioning the business as a leading renewable energy platform.
  • Lead the identification, evaluation and execution of new renewable energy investments across utility-scale solar, floating solar, waste-to-energy (WTE), hydropower, battery energy storage systems (BESS), biomass, biogas and other emerging clean energy technologies.
  • Oversee the full project lifecycle, including feasibility studies, development, engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and commercial operations, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time and within budget.
  • Drive commercial performance by identifying new business opportunities, evaluating investments, negotiating strategic partnerships, joint ventures, Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), EPC and O&M contracts.
  • Lead the operational management and optimisation of renewable energy assets, focusing on plant availability, operational efficiency, reliability and profitability.
  • Develop and manage annual business plans, budgets, capital expenditure and financial performance to achieve revenue and EBITDA targets.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with government agencies, regulators, utilities, financial institutions, investors, technology providers and other strategic stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory, environmental, health, safety, ESG and corporate governance requirements while maintaining effective enterprise risk management practices.
  • Present strategic initiatives, investment proposals and business performance updates to the Executive Leadership Team and Board of Directors.


Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Business Administration, Finance or a related discipline. An MBA or postgraduate qualification is highly desirable.
  • Minimum 15 years of progressive leadership experience within the renewable energy, utilities, infrastructure or power generation sectors, with at least 5 years in a senior executive leadership role.
  • Extensive experience managing complex, high-value capital projects from development through commercial operation.
  • Sound understanding of Malaysia's energy market, renewable energy policies, regulatory framework and industry landscape. Regional ASEAN experience would be an advantage.
  • Strong financial and operational management capabilities with experience overseeing P&L, capital investments, budgeting and business performance.
  • Proven ability to build strategic partnerships and effectively engage with government agencies, regulators, investors, utilities, financial institutions and executive stakeholders.
  • Professional Engineering (Ir./PE) certification and experience working within government-linked companies (GLCs), independent power producers (IPPs), utilities or renewable energy developers will be an added advantage.
